Velour Modular – The Shields
When Velour Modular (AKA Annabelle Guilhem) first emerged with 2013’s ‘Capsule EP’, she channelled Kuedo’s melodic synth motifs, summoned the bubbling electronica of Seekae, the spacious, hallucinatory elements of Clams Casino, and the shuffling percussion of Phon.o. The Capsule EP shone a light on her ambitious, exploratory sides, as well as her skills for successfully realising what was a deeply conceptual record. Where Capsule looked to childhood, new tracks recorded with acclaimed producer Phon.o bring us into her present world.
Boulevards – Got to go
Boulevards, AKA Raleigh native Jamil Rashad is the son of a jazz radio DJ, Rashad grew up in a house that fostered an early interest in a variety of music; jazz, blues, R&B and funk records were on constant rotation. As a teen, he (a self-confessed “scene kid” in the NC area) branched out into punk, hardcore and metal, whose sound characteristics of technical precision and tight, economic power, would later go on to influence Rashad’s own productions.
Young Galaxy – Body
The winter of 2014/2015 took Young Galaxy from their studio in Montreal to Gothenburg and back. The band’s brilliant new full length Falsework completes the sound they have been mining on their past two albums Shapeshifting (2011) and Ultramarine (2013) with producer Dan Lissvik. The album is undeniably synth pop without the simplicity and was informed and inspired by 80’s electro, acid house and r&b, music that was well ahead of its time. Falsework was made using machines from the past to sound like music from the future.
Love For Zero – Step Into The Light
The Manchester based four-piece are Chris Niebel (vocals), Andy Dainton (lead guitar, synths), Angelos Gavriilidis (bass, synths) and Olli Cox (drums) and the band have previously supported the likes of The Kooks, The Twang & Example. Drawing from varying influences, ranging from The White Lies to Warpaint to Beach House, Love For Zero fuse indie-rock, pop and dance music; mixing up crashing guitars with layered synths and big bass lines.
Zurich – Alone
‘Zurich’ are an English Rock Band from Oxford who play widescreen post-punk rock with a nod to the darker side of eighties electronic pop. Earning an impressive live reputation in a competitive Oxford music scene, the band comprise of Adrian Banks (Bass & Vocals), Chris Gillett (Guitar & Vocals) and Leigh Taylor (Drums & Samples). Zurich have just finished working on their highly anticipated debut EP ‘Small Wars’ with award winning producer Gary Stevenson.
