Today’s weather is making our music editor Lulu super sad, but hopefully these wonderful tracks will distract you from the rain! Don’t forget to share the list with your friends and tweet @After_Nyne.
Tourists – All We Do Is Pretend
A coalescence of intricate guitar melodies, curvy art-funk bass lines and 80’s synth leads, Tourists encapsulate modern post-punk revivalism with a melodic, psychedelic spin. After a quiet transitional year in the shadows, Tourists have re-emerged in 2015 and look set to build on the success of recent years. With a sound and presence richer and more expansive than ever before, Giles’ vocals remain haunting, echoing notions of self-doubt, indulgence, love and loss, in a dark shimmering sea of reverb.
Donovan Wolfington – Ollie North
Donovan Wolfington’s brand of catchy, yet emotional punk draws from an eclectic group of influences including partying, making friends, traveling, and growing up in general. Guitarists/vocalists Neil Berthier and Matthew Seferian met at their college freshman orientation in 2011, both with the hopes of getting out of college alive and playing some music along the way.
Flora Cash – Save Me
Cole and Shpresa are the American/Swedish pair who met on Soundcloud instantly falling in love with the others music. In June 2012, Shpresa flew to Cole in Minneapolis from Stockholm where she stayed until they returned to Sweden as a couple two months later. It was there that the band was born.
Toe – The World According To
The vast majority of their music is instrumental and features the swift and acute drumming of Takashi. The band is also known for its melodic, clean guitar settings. Additionally, the compositions have repetition from typical rock motifs, but use very subtle changes in beat and rhythm to form a unique sound. The band has changed their sound over their musical tenure by incorporating acoustic guitars, rhodes piano, and vibraphones in their most recent releases.
Say Yes Dog – Stronger
Founded in 2011 by two Germans and one Luxembourger, the Berlin based trio merges danceable synthesizer melodies with great beats. They have been spending the last few years touring all over Europe refining their sound and live shows. After sharing Girlfriend back in the Spring, Say yes Dog are releasing ’Stronger, the second single taken from the album, released earlier this month. A great slice of cool and breezy elctro-pop, ‘Stronger’ seems to be born to soundtrack a long warm summer night.
