After Nyne Weekend Playlist 30/10/15

As it’s Halloween tomorrow, here are some scarily good tracks (sorry) to soundtrack your weekend.  Don’t forget to share the list and tweet @After_Nyne.

These Your Children – Fires

Nottingham based singing-songwriting duo Rebeka Prance and Joe Baxter, better known as These Your Children, debut their new track Fires, taken from their EP of the same name, released 9 Nov.  TYC describe their sound as ‘storytelling music’ with an undercurrent of Africa freedom songs that combine passionate vocals and delicate melodies.  Their forthcoming 4-track EP ‘Fires’ aims to stay true to their intimate vocals by exploring an emotive angle, yet showcasing their eagerness to experiment with a bolder, tribal sound.

Novella – Sentences

Novella’s formation was the result of an instant spark—guitarist Hollie Warren, guitarist Sophy Hollington, and bassist Suki Sou met through mutual friends in Brighton in 2010, where they quickly realized that they shared a common love for ‘60s counterculture and bands like Black Sabbath, the Brian Jonestown Massacre, and Pale Saints. The addition of drummer Iain Laws in 2011 and keyboardist Isabel Spurgeon in 2014 solidified the group into a propulsive engine, capable of welding woozy, cosmic psychedelia to sustained squalls of flanged-out, far-out dream pop.

Luna LePage – Phoenix

Imagine if Amy Winehouse, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin and Robert Johnson all threw their genetics into a petri dish and decided the make a super soul phenomenon, you’d get female-fronted blues band, Luna LePage; Ferocious, fiery vocals, smooth mellow guitars and with an overall blues funk beat – LunaLePage creates the ultimate chill out music after a hard days work. Since forming in 2014, Luna LePage will released their debut UK single on October20th. Produced by Joe Morris at the Henwood Studios, ‘Phoenix’ is the first official release from the band and is available via iTunes, Spotify and Apple Music.

The Luka State – Bring This All Together

During the last few months The Luka State have been busy performing at festivals all over the UK and Europe and are now set to release their brand new indie-rock single ‘Bring This All Together’ on November 27th 2015 via Project Records. ‘Bring This All Together’ was self-produced by the band and the single mix was done by Tarek Musa from Spring Kings who was chosen by the band mainly down to his DIY ethic, “He’s a producer who records his vocals in bedroom and demo’s on a laptop which keeps his sound feeling more fresh and real. We didn’t want this track to sound over-produced as that’s not what we are about.”

Ella On The Run – Cavalry

London based alt-pop artist Ella On The Run released her new single ‘Cavalry’ this month. Ella On The Run’s laid-back vocals and synth pop vibes have already garnered attention from the likes of Clash Music, Huffington Post and BBC Introducing, with her previous ‘War of Words’ EP, and she has performed in London alongside Tove Styrke – a sold out show in association with the Line of Best Fit.

David Ward – Mobius Wave

Today David Ward has shared his new single ‘Möbius Wave’  The single is the second installment of Ward’s new project ‘Transitioning: A Rhapsody In Five Parts’. David Ward’s Transitioning is a reflective, turbulent and triumphant rhapsody. Venturing into the kaleidoscopic unknown of this life and the next, violence and reconciliation guide two stories that unfold in the absence of control. Ward’s third release to date is one that breathes a new and shimmering wanderlust into his small but diverse body of work.
