Following on from an already sensational 2015, with his stunning feature on SG Lewis’ “No Less”, Louis Mattrs returns with his own material, an incredible 5 track EP titled: Slow Waves. Listeners will be blown-away by Louis’ sheer versatility on lead track “Superman”, a song which was written, produced and performed by the man himself. Lyrically sultry and emotive “Superman” is sonically haunting, leaving it’s sound lingering long after the first listen. Now BMB Spacekid has taken the track to a new level, remixing the already popular song into a new realm; adding his Rare Groove influences, and giving “Superman” a dose of P-Funk.
BMB Spacekid, otherwise known as Dmitry Semenov, hails from St Petersburg, Russia, and has shared the stage with names including Hud Mo, Wutang and MF Doom. Musical collaborations include his production credits for Dre’s Compton album, on ‘Animals’, as well as tracks with DJ Premier and Goldlink. Following on from his debut EP Cuba, Spacekid released his From Russia With Love mixtape, a free project that propelled him even further into the world of tastemaker talent. He is now working on his next EP, and is a firm one-to-watch, with his unique hybrid of astral beats.
No stranger to the music world, Louis Mattrs has also featured on Chase & Status’ 2013 smash “Lost & Not Found”, as well as releasing his Beachy Head EP in 2014. “War With Heaven”, the first track from the project, was premiered as Zane Lowe’s Next Hype on Radio 1. In the midst of perfecting his forthcoming Slow Waves EP, Louis kept fans entertained, and dropped the sensational mash up mix of Tweet’s old school “Ooops” banger and Party Next Door’s “Wus Good”. The mash up was heavily championed at radio from the likes of Annie Mac and Mista Jam and quickly became ‘1Xtra’s Record Of The Week’.
The Slow Waves EP, which features hotly tipped US rapper Lucki Eck$, and singer/ songwriter Lauren K Faith, is a phenomenal body of work from the sensational talent that is Louis Mattrs. Producing, writing and performing his own work, Louis is a barrage of undeniable and addictive talent. From the moment the EP begins, a listener is sucked into the wonderfully warped and surreal world of Louis.
The Cadenza produced cut “White Girl Wasted” depicts a story of intoxicated love and longing; lust and desire, perfectly shaped into a hazy dream of ethereal melody and heavy tinged bass.
With fans already in anticipation for new material from the singer, Louis’ sights are firmly set on cementing his position further in the realms of tastemaker talent.
