Roland Mouret’s latest collection has just launched, and baby, he’s come a long way from the Galaxy Dress which made his name a decade ago.
Don’t get me wrong, if you’re after a signature showstopper he’s still your go-to man, but if sharp angles are more your thing than hourglass curves, and flippy minis trump slinky midis every time, it’s time you took a second look.
Geometric designs, sheer detailing and a monochrome palette animated by unexpected splashes of colour make up the collection’s touchstones, but it was Mouret’s unprecedented annexation of the A-line silhouette which caused the biggest stir on the FROW back in March. “How do you make an A-line skirt sexy?” he was heard to ask backstage.
His own collection, redolent with echoes of the swinging sixties, provided the only necessary response. Hint: Invest in a pair of RM zip-front ankle-huggers and anything you wear will look sexy.
