Donna Karan, who is stepping down from her position at the head of DKNY, was and remains, a brilliant, creative force who led the charge in American fashion alongside Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren.
The company responded to the news of Karan’s departure from the label on Instagram, stating “When [Karan] started her collection in 1985 she set out to simply make clothes for her and her friends.”
It has also been announced that New York-based Public School will be responsible for designing the line in preparation for their first catwalk show in September in NYFW.
Karan’s elegant designs have been worn by a devoted number of A-listers including Blake Lively and Kate Moss, and the end of this era will sadden many.
Karan’s designs were suited to more suitable sizes in comparison to the standard manufacturing of size 0s only, making the designer a fashion icon for her realistic approach to womenswear.
Her creative force is also evident in her emblematic campaign ‘In Women We Trust’, hinting the idea of female presidency in USA in 1992. Karen’s supremacy is also recognised in the major charity ‘Urban Zen’ she founded following her husband’s death. Following her leave from Donna Karan International, Karan claims she will spend more time with this charitable foundation.
Donna Karan has always been renowned for her ‘real’ approach and sharp mind. One envisages a bright future in whatever she now chooses to turn her hand to.
