After Nyne Weekend Playlist 26/6/15

beach cafe
Happy Friday After Nyners!  Here’s another playlist to reward you after another hard week.  Get out in the sun and make the most of it – unless you’re at Glastonbury then I hope you have a really horrible lovely time not listening to my playlist.  Remember to share the list and tweet @AfterNyne.

Courts – Sanatana

I’ve featured Courts on the weekend playlist before, but I really couldn’t not put this song on the list this weekend, especially with this weather.  The sound is perfect for relaxing in the sun with a beer or 5, with inspiration deriving from Disco, Hip Hop, Indie, and beyond, the boys’ sound lends itself to something truly unique. Creating a hybrid genre, that’s almost impossible to define.  Definitely one to keep an eye on over the summer!

Gunship – The Mountain (April Towers Remix)

GUNSHIP is a neon soaked, late night, sonic getaway drive, dripping with luscious analogue synthesizers, cinematic vocals and cyberpunk values, exploding from the front cover of a dusty plastic VHS case which has lain forgotten since 1984. Created by Dan Haigh, Alex Westaway (Fightstar) and Alex Gingell, GUNSHIP is an evolution of the of the recently popularised synthwave genre, which was originally started by Rosso Corsa records & The Valerie Collective artists.

White Reaper – Pills

Like everything White Reaper does, the band’s trajectory from regional act renowned for its high-intensity shows to national touring group was accomplished at the speed of 0 to 60. “We went all over the country and grew our hair out a little bit,” says guitarist/singer Tony Esposito about the past year spent on the road with the likes of Deerhoof, Young Widows, Priests, and more.

Old House Playground – Polite Fiction

Old House Playground is a three piece contemporary blues/alt-rock band with roots in the songwriting culture of traditional Greek folk music. I love the fusion of genres and techniques, creating a truly unique mix which I can’t get enough of.  Cath Aubergine of Manchester Music sums them up perfectly: “They’ve got the deep, gravelly lo-fi blues with a bit of old-time swing and rockabilly on the side – imagine a pared down Bedlam Six fronted by a young hybrid of Jack White and Nick Cave. His lyrics are dark, twisted stories with a certain literary flair”.

Sabrina Gunston – Gotta Get Thru This

The most exciting new singer from the UK’s South Coast follows up her covers of Drake – ‘Hold On, We’re Going Home’ and ‘Blank Space’ by Taylor Swift, with this contemporary reworking of the 2001 old-skool garage classic by Daniel Bedingfield. The track, produced by Ricardo Hinds brings a refreshing update to the platinum certified hit, and incorporates a number of modern production techniques to provide Sabrina’s  enchanting the voice the back drop it deserves!
