Russian Re-imagining of Measure for Measure comes to Oxford Playhouse, 28th April – 2nd May

Celebrated company Cheek By Jowl returns to Oxford Playhouse with a thrilling reinvention of Shakespeare’s classic Measure for Measure, from Tuesday 28 April to Saturday 2 May.

Deep within the heart of the city lies an underworld of chaotic convents, prisons and brothels, kept hidden by a corrupt authority. As virtue and vice blur dangerously together, Shakespeare dissects the nature of government, love, and justice with humour and insight.

Measure For Measure is reimagined in a razor-sharp modern production by a critically acclaimed company of Russian artists, performed in Russian. During its smash hit run in Moscow, the show was described as “compelling”, “stunning” and “breathtaking”.

Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod’s Cheek by Jowl is internationally renowned for its dynamic and beautiful style, with dramatic staging, poetic storytelling and world class actors. Previous productions include the scorching ‘Tis Pity She’s a Whore, Ubu Roi and The Tempest

Don’t miss this new show from a spectacular company whose rich visual imagery transcends language.
